Which medical tests do I need?
The list of investigations for a DGCA Class 1 medical changes with your age and whether it is your first exam or a renewal. Pick your status and age to see the exact tests DGCA requires, straight from the official circular. This tool complements the examiner finder: that one tells you where to go, this one tells you what to expect.
The initial Class 1 can be done from age 17, and you need a valid Class 2 first.

Common questions
At what age can I do the initial Class 1 medical?+
From 17 years and above, per DGCA FCL Circular 03 of 2025. You need a valid Class 2 medical first. The initial schedule is the most extensive, covering blood work, ECG, chest X-ray, ultrasound, audiometry and a dilated eye exam.
How long does the Class 1 medical take?+
DGCA says the examination takes 1 to 3 days depending on the investigations required and the clinical findings. Report empty stomach, and clean your ears of wax beforehand.
Which tests must be done at an outside lab?+
TMT (treadmill stress test), 2D echocardiography and serum PSA must be done at a NABL, NABH or ISO-accredited laboratory and uploaded to eGCA. Many other investigations can be done at the IAF Boarding Centre, but for civil centres and examiners you upload accredited-lab reports.
How long are my test reports valid?+
Per the circular, routine blood and urine tests, blood biochemistry, resting ECG and pure tone audiometry are valid for 1 month; USG, X-ray, TMT, 2D echo, CT, MRI and coronary angiography for 2 months. So do not get them done too far ahead of your exam date.
Does this tool include the fees?+
No, by design. The DGCA circular lists CGHS rates, but fees vary by centre and change, and paying is a separate step on Bharatkosh. This tool answers only which investigations you need. For a full budget, use the cost calculator.
