The true cost, itemised
The headline course fee is never the real number. This is the most comprehensive cost worksheet on the site: every item a school can bill you for, with an approximate figure on each, which makes it both the best way to plan your budget and the fastest way to find a quote's hidden costs. Fill in the quotes you were actually given, school by school, and the gaps show up on their own.

Add a school and fill in the quote you were given. Amounts in ₹ lakh — or type it the way the quote reads: 15,000, 15k, 1.2cr.
| Line item | Typical |
|---|---|
| Flying training | |
Flying training to CPL (mid-range) Ask exactly how many hours this buys, and the per-hour rate beyond them. | ₹48.5L ₹42.0L – ₹55.0L |
Multi-engine endorsement & instrument rating● A fee quoted for 'CPL' often buys single-engine hours only. Ask whether multi-engine and instrument time is inside it or billed after it. | ₹5.5L ₹3.0L – ₹8.0L |
Landing, airfield & navigation charges● Charged per movement at controlled airfields, and passed straight on to the student at many schools. | ₹90k ₹30k – ₹1.5L |
GST on fees, if charged● Treatment varies by school and course, and tax can apply to each stage separately. Ask whether the quote is GST-inclusive: 18% on a ₹45L fee is over ₹8L. | Ask |
Registration & security deposit● Often partly refundable. Get the refund terms in writing. | ₹60k ₹25k – ₹1.0L |
| Subtotal | ₹55.5L |
| Ground school, exams & licences | |
Ground school & DGCA exam coaching● Optional if you self-study, but most budget for it. | ₹1.3L ₹50k – ₹2.0L |
DGCA exams, licence issue & endorsements | ₹50k ₹25k – ₹75k |
RTR(A) radio-telephony licence● A separate WPC exam and licence, rarely inside a course fee. | ₹30k ₹15k – ₹50k |
Exam & skill-test re-attempt fees● A fee covers the first attempt only. A repeat skill test also means paying for the aircraft and the examiner again. | ₹20k ₹5k – ₹30k |
Books, charts & training material● | ₹30k ₹10k – ₹40k |
Uniform, headset & flight gear● | ₹40k ₹15k – ₹60k |
| Subtotal | ₹3.0L |
| Medicals | |
Class 1 & Class 2 medicals | ₹20k ₹10k – ₹35k |
Class 1 renewal during training● Class 1 has to stay valid throughout, so at least one renewal normally falls due before you finish. | ₹10k ₹5k – ₹20k |
| Subtotal | ₹30k |
| Travel, visas & insurance | |
Travel to base & transport to the training site● Some schools shuttle students between accommodation and the airfield, some leave the daily commute to you. | ₹50k ₹20k – ₹80k |
| Subtotal | ₹50k |
| Living costs while training (typical for 18 months) | |
Accommodation during training● Assumes a shared hostel or student housing place. Ask how many weeks a school's figure is quoted for, because board is priced against a scheduled course length, not against how long you actually take. | ₹2.2L ₹1.1L – ₹3.3L |
Food & daily living● A meal allowance is not the same as meals provided. Check which one you are being offered. | ₹1.8L ₹90k – ₹2.7L |
Campus services (internet, laundry, student support)● Small individually, and free only if the school includes them. Ask what a place in the hostel actually comes with. | ₹30k ₹10k – ₹50k |
| Subtotal | ₹4.3L |
| Type rating | |
Type rating (A320 / B737 family)● Usually needed before most airline jobs; often self-funded. | ₹18.0L ₹18.0L – ₹25.0L |
MCC / jet orientation course Usually included with the type rating. Confirm it is in the package — bought on its own it runs ₹1.5–4L. | Ask |
Airline bridge course● Airline-specific preparation before you fly the line, and a real cost no CPL fee covers. Whether you need one depends on the operator you join. | ₹7.0L ₹5.0L – ₹9.0L |
Type rating endorsement on your DGCA licence● Getting the rating recognised on your Indian licence is its own fee and paperwork, separate from the course. | ₹10k ₹5k – ₹15k |
| Subtotal | ₹25.1L |
| Overrun & contingency | |
Extra hours & delay overrun (weather, re-flights)● Sized on roughly ten extra hours, or one failed check plus the retraining before the re-test. The top of the range is the student who needs both. Get the per-hour rate in writing, because this is the one line you cannot cap in advance. | ₹2.5L ₹1.0L – ₹5.0L |
Board & lodging past the scheduled course length● Sized on about a month of overstay. Accommodation and meals are quoted for a fixed number of weeks, so once training runs past them you carry both yourself, for as long as it takes. | ₹20k ₹11k – ₹33k |
| Subtotal | ₹2.7L |
| All-in total | ₹91.4L |

How it works
- 01
Pick your route
Indian FTO, training abroad, or an airline cadet programme, and a school tier. Every line item gets an approximate value you can plan on.
- 02
Fill in real quotes
Add up to three schools and enter what each one charges, marking every line as in the fee, billed on top, not offered, or not yet answered.
- 03

Subtotals, an all-in total and a plain list of what each quote does not cover — then plan the loan EMI against whichever school you choose.
Common questions
How accurate are these numbers?+
The Typical column is an indicative 2026 planning range compiled from public fee guides and official programme pages where available. It varies by school, programme, hours flown, exchange rates and what is included, so treat it as a planning estimate and confirm exact figures in writing. The columns you fill in are your school's own quote — those are the numbers that matter.
Why is the cheapest fee usually not the cheapest school?+
Because schools include very different things. One quote may cover only single-engine flying hours while another bundles ground school, the multi-engine and instrument rating, accommodation, books and exam fees. Marked on the worksheet with a dot are the costs most commonly left out: multi-engine and instrument time, landing charges, ground school, RTR(A), books, uniform, re-attempt fees, medical renewals, flights, visas, insurance, accommodation, food, MCC, the type rating and the overrun. Add those back and the ranking often flips.
Why are there so many line items?+
Because that is the level of detail a fair comparison needs. The line list is modelled on the price comparison worksheets the big academies hand to airline cadet candidates, where every billable item is disclosed row by row so the candidate can put a rival quote beside it and see the difference. Those worksheets are the most complete public statement of what a training programme actually charges for, which is why this one goes down to landing charges, re-attempt fees, visas, insurance, medical renewals, campus services and board that runs past the scheduled course length. If a line looks irrelevant to your quote, mark it not offered and it drops out of the total.
Why include a type rating?+
Because most airlines require one before they will hire you, and it is a large cost — often ₹18–25 lakh — that brochures leave out. Leaving it off makes training look cheaper than it really is.
What does an airline cadet programme fee actually include?+
Usually almost everything: ground school, flying, the multi-engine and instrument rating, the type rating, training material, uniform, accommodation and meals. The list of what it leaves out is short and predictable, which is why the cadet route shows so few extra rows: overflying beyond the syllabus, your own travel, visas, DGCA exam and licensing fees, medical fees, a headset, and the entrance test fee you pay just to sit the selection. Overflying is the one to watch, because it is billed per hour and it is the only part of the number that is genuinely open-ended.
What is the overrun buffer?+
Flight training routinely runs past the quoted hours because of weather, re-tests and slow progress, and those extra hours are billed to you. The buffer is a realistic allowance for that — the single most under-budgeted part of pilot training. Always ask, in writing, exactly how each extra hour is charged.
